Click the 2016-17 Season tab, or call our office for details.     From Bach to Bernstein will showcase the music of Bach, Beethoven, Dukas,  Prokofiev, Joplin, Barber, Steiner, Mancini, Mascagni, Morricone, Williams, Puccini, Debussy, Shostakovich, Ravel, Stravinsky and Leonard Bernstein Eric Jacobsen returns for third smash season as GBS turns 70.   About 900 people attended GBS' season premiere concert, Dvorak -- and Beyer's Back! on September 24 at The Klein.  Homegrown prodigy ALEX BEYER headlined at the piano with a Beethoven's 2nd Piano Concerto, to a massive ovation; he followed with Chopin for an encore.  The concert also featured Shostakovich's Jazz Suite #2 and Dvorak's celebratory 8th Symphony.   GBS also honored the career of our late conductor, Gustav Meier, by performing the very first piece he ever conducted in Bridgeport in 1966: Beethoven's Leonore Overture #3.   GBS Goes to the Movies, on November 12, will bring to the stage the great classics behind the movies.  GBS brings you the great music behind the movies - Beethoven 7 from the King's Speech, the Barber Adagio from Platoon, the Mascagni Intermezzo from The Godfather III, and Scott Joplin's rags from The Sting, among others - then moves into the great orchestral scores from Gone With The Wind, The Magnificent Seven, The Wizard of Oz, and more, before launching into the thrilling music of John Williams - Star Wars, Raiders of the Lost Ark, and Schindler's List.  It's a night of romance and adventure not to be missed!  With guest conductor Ted Sperling, who is currently conducting the revival of Fiddler on the Roof on Broadway. Spend Christmas Eve in Paris (December 17) at The Klein, as GBS performs the concert version of La Boheme, with renowned operatic soloists, and the Principal Orchestra of The Greater Bridgeport Youth Orchestras (GBYO). 2017 would be Leonard's Bernstein's 99th birthday, so we'll celebrate with Bernstein at 99! on March 18, which will also include Ravel's Tzigane (our own Deborah Wong solos on violin) and Debussy's Nocturnes.  The Connecticut Chamber Choir and the Fairfield County Children's Choir will join us for this marvelous celebration.  The season concludes as GBS Salutes Spring on April 22 with Beethoven's 6th Symphony, the famous Pastorale.  Click the 2016-17 Season tab for more information and to purchase tickets.
